School's out for the summer!

Ah how I wish I was still in school and that I could be "out" for the summer. But those days are gone .. for now at least. Now I am an adult and have to go to work .. but with summer here it made me think of the fun activities and adventures I took as a child. And of course this brought me to camp .. and all that encompasses camp. Take a look at some of the fun "summer camp" stuff out there!

Party Inspiration of the week: Summer Camp Party!! I found this on Tiny Prints and it immediately made me what to be a camper again. Thoughts from Tiny Prints .. You’ll have so much fun hosting a camp-themed party or creating a mini summer camp in your own backyard. Incorporate all the traditional camping snacks, treats, and favorite activities to recreate the entire experience. Throw in some woodsy and natural-inspired decor and get ready for some outdoor fun!

Recipe of the week: Nothing reminds me of camp or summer more than SMORES! And thanks to the Stiletto Chef I discovered this amazing new twist on the smore!

GRILLED BANANA S’MORES

Serves 6

This droolfesttreat is still my absolute kid-friendly favorite! Feel like a kid again by getting your hands all messy and dig in to your next obsession. This is a delicious and incredible treat for all to love! It’s so simple kids can make these on their own + for the total adult version skip the marshmallow and just include banana only! Amazing!

  • 6-  2-3 inch squares of dark or milk chocolate, I prefer dark, like Pure Dark chocolate!
  • 6  graham crackers, halved, made into lil smore sandwiches
  • 2 ripe bananas, cut into thin slices, but thick enough for a skewer—not too ripe, but not too tough, firm enough to skewer and stay intact
  • 1 bag of large marshmallows

1-  On a metal skewer, skew up the bananas or the marshies, which ever you prefer.

2- Grill for a few minutes, on a grill @ medium to low heat,  allowing the mallows to melt on one side, then flip!

3- Place 1 square of dark or milk chocolate, onto each graham cracker half. Place the grahams with chocolate on a clean part of the grill and allow the chocolate to melt! When the bananas and the marshmallows are off the heat, place onto the other clean graham cracker half..

4- Top with the chocolate melted graham cracker half, press into gooey-deliciousness and make those smore sandwiches! Amazing! For extra gooey-ness, place the s’more directly on the grill after making it into a sandwich, and melt the chocolate even more.

Book of the week - P.S. I Still hate it here!   Thank you WSJ for this hilarious article and even more humours look into this book. How much did you enjoy writing letters home? I know I did .. but I never wrote any quite as funny as the ones below.

On the heels of the successful P.S. I Hate it Here comes an all-new, even more outrageous and laugh-out-loud funny collection of real letters written by children ages eight to sixteen to their parents about their adventures at summer camp. Written with the same wit and honesty that made the first book a runaway hit, these new letters take the reader on a familiar adventure that conjures up the experience of being away from home, and the hilarious and lasting memories that accompany that special place called sleepaway camp.

Praise for P.S. I Still Hate it Here: “Will give you and your friends a good laugh while you’re at the beach and the kids are away.” —Geek Mom
